SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MIKE BISHOP TO SPEAK AT CMU
Hosted by the College Republicans at Central Michigan University

Senate Majority Leader and Attorney General candidate Mike Bishop will meet with the College Republicans at Central Michigan University on April 13th. His visit will cover his current agenda as Majority Leader and his future agenda for the campaign to become Michigan’s top law advisor. Currently, Senator Bishop represents Michigan’s 12th Senate district.

Senator Bishop has long been an advocate of a smaller, more efficient government. This has been marked during both his tenure in the Senate, along with his time in the House of Representatives.

Senator Bishop has authored and sponsored many pieces of landmark legislation including, but not limited to:

· Identity Theft Protection Act

· Michigan Child Protection Agency

He has also been awarded with:

· Small Business Association of Michigan Legislator of the Year

· Credit Union National Association Legislator of the Year

· Dads and Moms of Michigan Legislator of the Year

· Michigan Bankers Association Economic Impact Award

Senator Bishop’s vast and diverse experiences are among the reasons the College Republicans at Central Michigan University greatly anticipate his appearance.

STATE SENATE CANDIDATE BRIAN CALLEY TO SPEAK AT CMU
Hosted by the College Republicans at Central Michigan University

On Tuesday, March 30, State Representative Brian Calley, a candidate for the 33rd State Senate District, will attend the weekly meeting of the College Republicans at Central Michigan University. The event is free and open to the public. The meeting will start at 9:00 P.M. in Anspach 169.

Calley graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration, and went on to get his MBA from Grand Valley State University.

He served on the Ionia County Board of Commissioners from 2002 to 2006, and in 2006 he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, to serve the citizens of the 87th District (Barry and part of Ionia Counties).  In 2008, Calley won in a landslide, garnering over a third of the votes.

In 2008 Calley received the “Legislator of the Year” award by the Small Business Association of Michigan.  He was also given the “Economic Impact” award by the Michigan Bankers Association and was named “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” by the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce.

Calley is committed to moving Michigan forward, has championed property tax reform, and has stood up for small businesses, and the College Republicans at Central Michigan University welcome him as he talks with students about his campaign.

SECRETARY OF STATE CANDIDATE PAUL SCOTT TO SPEAK AT CMU
Hosted by the College Republicans at Central Michigan University

On Tuesday, March 23, State Representative Paul Scott, a candidate for Michigan Secretary of State, will attend the weekly meeting of the College Republicans at Central Michigan University. The event is free and open to the public. The meeting will start at 9:00 P.M. in Anspach 169.

Scott graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a Bachelors Degree, Harvard University with a Masters Degree, and is currently earning his Law Degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Law School. He has worked as a law clerk and also as the Deputy Director of the Gallup Organization's World Poll Division.

He is on the executive committee of the Genesee County Republicans and is a member of Genesee County Rite to Life, NRA, and the Fenton Chamber of commerce. Scott also has coached high school football and baseball along with coaching in the Grand Blanc Little League.

Currently, Scott represents the 51st District in the Michigan House of Representatives, serving the citizens of southern Genesee County.

With 2010 being a crucial election year for Michigan, it is important that candidates come to campus to speak to students about their thoughts and concerns about the current condition of the state.  The College Republicans welcome Rep. Scott as one of the many candidates to come speak this semester.

STATE HOUSE CANDIDATE CHRISTINE ALWOOD TO SPEAK AT CMU
Hosted by the College Republicans at Central Michigan University

On Tuesday, February 16th, Christine Alwood, a candidate for the 99th State House District, will attend the weekly meeting of the College Republicans at CMU. The event is free and open to the public. The meeting will start at 9:00 P.M. in Anspach 169.

Alwood is running for 99th State House District, which is made up of Isabella County and part of Midland County. The current representative for the 99th District, Bill Caul, has endorsed Alwood.

Alwood is currently serving as the Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations for Central Michigan University and graduated from the university in 1992.She has served as an Isabella County Commissioner, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, and Planning Commissioner, and she is currently a member of the Chamber of Commerce Legislative committee.

Alwood is also a member of the Lions Club and volunteers for Human Animal Treatment Society. She resides in Mt. Pleasant with her husband and four children.

ATTORNEY GENERAL CANDIDATE BILL SCHUETTE TO SPEAK AT CMU

The College Republicans at Central Michigan University are proud to announce that former Congressman, Michigan Department of Agriculture Director, State Senator, and Court of Appeals Judge Bill Schuette will be a guest at the College Republicans’ weekly meeting taking place on February 9, 2010.

Judge Schuette has been “on duty” for the people of Michigan since 1984. Currently, he is seeking the office of Attorney General for the state of Michigan. He has an extensive history of supporting tax cuts and strengthening our national defense. Judge Schuette served as a judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals for six years, and is now practicing, in private, as Senior Counsel at Warner, Norcross & Judd.

The College Republicans at Central Michigan University welcome Judge Schuette’s visit on February 9, 2010. This is the first step toward Mr. Schuette’s effort to engage the only Republican group on Central Michigan University’s campus.
